GLA:D Canada

Based on Good Life with Osteoarthritis in Denmark (GLA:D®), the GLA:DTM Canada program follows current recommendations for the management of hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA). The program reflects the latest OA research and has been developed based on feedback from people with OA, as well as healthcare professionals who provide care to individuals with mild to severe symptoms. GLA:D® provides an evidence-based approach that works in the real world.

It is a 7-week education and exercise program for individuals with stiff or painful knees and/or hips or individuals with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. Research shows participants in GLA:D® are more physically active, report less pain, reduce the use of pain medications and may delay or prevent the need for surgery.

To determine if you will benefit from the GLA:D® program you will undergo an assessment by a health care practitioner, which will include a physical assessment as well as some functional tests. Once you have been told the program is right for you, the GLA:D® program consists of:

  • Two 60-minute group education sessions
  • Twelve 60-minute exercise sessions completed with other GLA:D participants
  • Data collection for quality monitoring

Option to register in the GLA:DTM Canada database to provide your outcomes and complete follow-up surveys (pre-program, 3 months, and 12 months after completing GLA:DTM Canada program.
