Your physiotherapy treatment at the UBC Physical Therapy & Research Clinic (PTRC) will be performed by one of our students under the tutelage of an experienced Registered Physical Therapist. All of our supervisors and mentors are fully qualified and passionate about equipping the next generation with the skills required for an all-around treatment.

Many of our Student Therapists are well into their studies by the time they’re gaining hands-on experience at UBC PTRC and will continue to refine their skills until the end of their program.

Is my appointment covered by health insurance?

This will depend on the type of plan you have. Please give your provider a call for details. We will be happy to direct bill on your behalf to the majority of providers.

The AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan was designed by students for students to take care of expenses not covered by basic health care plans, such as British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP), equivalent provincial health care plans, and private basic plans.

All AMS and GSS members (excluding those taking distance education courses only) are automatically enrolled, including full-time and part-time students, international students, and those auditing a course. If you are covered, the cost of the Plan is part of your student fees and no further action is required.

We do not bill on behalf of iMED or WorkSafe BC

Other Insurance Information

For a more efficient reimbursement process, register and submit your claims on the Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) website. Our policy number is 43979 (health, travel, and dental), and your ID number is your student number.

If you’re covered by another plan, you can combine this plan with the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan to maximize your overall coverage and eliminate out-of-pocket costs.

If you are an international student with questions about MSP, please call the MSP office at 604 683-7151 or email  mspenquiries@hibc.gov.bc.ca

If you have questions about iMED, a temporary insurance plan for new to UBC international students, please contact David Cummings Insurance Services by phone at 604 228 8816 or by email at info@david-cummings.com

If you have other questions related to international students please contact International Student Advising for more information at 604-822-5021 or international.house@ubc.ca

I see you have a FAME Class – How Do I Join?

As of Jan 2023 – We are currently running 2 FAME Classes – Monday and Wednesday at 2 pm

To start the process of joining the class, we usually conduct an initial assessment first. This allows us to see if you are eligible for the class and what our options are to help you with your recovery. This assessment is at a fee of $75.

If you happen to have MSP or extended health benefits we would be happy to bill them on your behalf depending on your provider.

The assessment will take 45 – 60 mins. If you are eligible and space allows, you will be added to a class suitable for you and hopefully fit your schedule. Each class is at a cost of $10 and is an hour in length.
